You should get information before you travel so that vaccinations can be planned, ideally no later than:
Holidays – minimum 8 weeks before you travel
Backpackers and working abroad – 3-6 months before you travel
Your practice or surgery will need to know:
- Departure and return dates
- Countries visiting
- Type of stay (holiday, backpack, occupational etc)
- Allergies
- Female patients – pregnant now or wanting to be
- Vaccines you have had previously
There maybe charge for some vaccines and not all may be available so you may be referred to other practices or specialist travel clinics for some vaccines.

If you need to get an idea of what vaccinations you need before going to a particular destination prior to booking a travel vaccination appointment, here is a useful resource Travel Health Pro. It provides up-to-date travel health information for the public. The site allows you to see the possible risks specifically for your travel destination.
Travel Appointment
Before booking an appointment with the Nurse (do not book with a doctor) you must inform the receptionist of the full details of your intended destinations, travel dates, your route and means of travel EIGHT WEEKS BEFORE THE TRAVEL DATE. This will allow the Nurse to determine what is required before booking an appointment, if necessary, for vaccinations.
In some circumstances the Nurse may need to order certain vaccines or make arrangements for a course of treatment.
Nurse will also make appropriate arrangements when a whole family is in need of vaccinations.
Please provide a contact number for the nurse to communicate with you.
Please complete and bring in the following questionnaires to the reception, minimum 8 weeks before travelling:
